A BLACK Isle hall will this week play host to an innovative fusion of Scottish and Indian music.

Resolis Hall will stage the event this Thursday evening (September 1) when Tom Bancroft’s In Common plays a gig there.

Tom – renowned as a jazz percussionist – began In Common by blending Celtic bodhran, Indian table drums and a drone. Diverse musicians and layers have been added since, drawing on Indian classical music, Scottish folk, electronica and jazz improvisation.

“We’ve been lucky to have had many amazing performers play at Resolis over the past couple of decades,” says Resolis Community Arts chair, David Gilbert. “But this gig promises to be up there with the best of them, full of virtuoso playing, surprising musical connections and energy.

“Two of the musicians – violinist Sharat Chandra Srivastava and tabla player Gyan Singh – have played at Resolis Hall before, as part of the popular India Alba. So the crew at RCA is looking forward to welcoming them back and to meeting and hearing the six-strong In Common ensemble.”

Supported by the Scotland on Tour project, backed by the Scottish Government to boost the resumption of live performances across Scotland, tickets cost £15 for adults, £8 for children and £35 for families at the door, before the start of the concert at 7.30pm on Thursday.
