A BLACK Isle-based supermarket delivery driver has set the internet alight with his latest coronavirus-inspired reinterpretation of a classic.

Liam Christie applied for a job at Tesco when the lockdown put a temporary halt to North Highland Events and Promotions, the entertainment business he was successfully running from his Black Isle home.

A well-known face as a compere for a wide variety of events and awards evenings, Mr Christie has a particular soft spot for country and western music and enjoys re-imagining lyrics "for a bit of craic".

His latest effort is inspired by rock band Smokie's 1970s' hit, Living Next Door to Alice.

Mr Christie's effort takes the topical theme of supermarket slots, a hot topic during the public health crisis when many people are self-isolating.

It has gone down a storm since he posted it on Facebook, which states: "Happy #bankholiday #weekend #lastweeklockdownish Here's a wee sing along for those peeps struggling to get their order slots! Just a bit of craic #stayhome #staysafe #savelives #protectnhs oh and STAY ALERT!"

His tongue-in-cheek effort, decked out in his Tesco high-visibility jacket, has attracted hundreds of likes and appreciative comments.
