Two Fortrose Academy students have managed to raise more than £3000 by cycling 200 miles for a cancer charity.
Adam Urquhart and Gregor Phillips, both 12 years old, set themselves the challenge last month and initially set themselves a target of £500 for Maggies Highland.
Their parents, Joan and Allan Urquhart and Melanie and Ian Philips, were very proud of their achievement and said: “They never moaned about going out, even in the rain and snow.
“We are all overwhelmed by the support given by family, friends and work colleagues. As the donations increased, the effort the boys put in grew as they didn’t want to let their supporters and Maggie’s Highland down.”
Gregor was also pleased with their efforts and said: “I feel great about it, I’m glad that all the money is going to a great cause. I think what we did was awesome and we had lots of fun”.
Adam added: “I am very proud and happy that we completed the challenge and that we raised so much money for Maggie’s Highland. Hopefully, lots of people will get the support they need in our local area.”
They had decided to raise money for Maggies Highland they both have grandfathers who have cancer and the charity supported patients and their families – so far they have managed to raise £3405.
During their fundraising efforts they cycled across the Black Isle and braved howling winds, heavy rain and snow showers but they felt that was nothing compared to the pain, worry and discomfort experienced by those who undergo cancer treatment.
