A police officer was attacked twice in less than 24 hours by the same man he had arrested.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 29-year-old Andrew Burgess of Crawford Avenue, Rosemarkie spat on the head of the constable in Queensgate on February 11 last year.

In Burnett Road Police Station the following day, he again assaulted the officer by lunging toward him, attempting to head-butt him and uttered threats of violence.

Burgess previously admitted both offences and had sentence deferred for a background report.

Burgess then re-appeared four months ago and had sentence further deferred for social work intervention with him.

A supplementary report was drafted for Sheriff Ian Cruickshank who was told that Burgess had cooperated fully and he had been of good behaviour also.

Sheriff Cruickshank told Burgess: "You have tempered the orders of the court and you will be admonished."

Defence solicitor Willie Young told the court: "There are no outstanding matters and the social work report is in extremely positive terms.

"He had never been in trouble before and this was an isolated incident with alcohol being a feature."
