Black Isle communities have curated a plan for the future of their towns and villages.

On January 19, the draft plan for the Black Isle's future was published, created entirely from the aspirations of the peninsula's community.

Residents have until February 16 to raise any issues they may have with the draft in a bid to ensure it reflects their vision for the Black Isle.

After this, the plan will be finalised before being submitted to Highland Council for registration as a Local Place Plan.

Gordon Adam, chairman of the Black Isle Partnership, said: “I urge everyone across the Black Isle to check that the draft plan reflects their aspirations for their community.

"Once we’ve finalised the plan, we all need to get behind it and support making it happen – which means community groups, the public sector and the private sector all working together for common purpose. The Black Isle Partnership is delighted to have been able to act as a conduit to support this on behalf of the community.”

MSP Kate Forbes said: “This is the most extensive consultation process which I have ever seen carried out across the Black Isle. It's a huge opportunity for organisations like Highland Council to use the core points from the plan, and do things differently. There's a wealth of data and knowledge captured, and we cannot allow that expertise to sit gathering dust on a shelf.

“Organisers are also acutely aware they have not reached everyone – so please come forward, engage as the various stages of the plan are implemented.

“I look forward to seeing the plan being further developed and being put into action.”

Ward councillor Angela MacLean praised those who have driven it forward. She said: "There has been real community engagement, by the community led by the Black Isle Partnership. It has not always been straightforward but this plan is community driven. It will be interesting to see how NHS Highland, Highland Council and other Community Planning Partners play their part in delivering those aspirations in the years to come. Especially as more are moving out of communities and centralising in Inverness."
