THE Black Isle community of Cromarty has issued an appeal for help in getting their vandalised toilets up and running before the visitor season arrives in earnest.

Damage estimated at £20,000 was caused to the Allan Square facilitis with fittings including a steel wash-hand basin being wrecked.

Highland Council' property maintenance service apparently sub-contracted the repair work to a contractor, but this company is waiting for the delivery of new sinks.

Cromarty and District Community Council has taken to social media to appeal for help, fearing that their flow of visitors could stop if they do not have this "vital amenity."

The Highland Council's amenities office has told the community council that supply issues are outwith their control, and pointing out that if there wasn't vandalism there wouldn't be this problem, which adds costs to their already tight budget operating 74 toilets and 45 comfort schemes in the Highlands.

The community council ends its Facebook post: "We need your help."
