Black Isle bullock declared champion at 'best show of prime cattle to have graced the ring in Dingwall'

DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 759 prime lambs at its Christmas Show and Sale sponsored by Barrack Sheep Dipping Services and judged by Mr Matthew Barrack, Overhill New Pitsligo.

New season lambs (759) averaged 238.6p (+6.7p) and sold to 409.0p and £180 gross.

SQQ 25.5kg to 45.5kg (360) averaged 239.6p (+2.9p) per kg.

Feeding sheep (376) sold to £300 gross.

Dingwall Mart's newly named Lambs for St Andrew's Day show was kindly sponsored By Barrack Sheep Dipping Services and was also judged by Mr Matthew Barrack, Overhill, New Pitsligo.

The champion pair was found amongst the Beltex cross section from Caithness consigners Messrs Sutherland, Borowston Mains, Thurso. Once again, the judge backed his decision, purchasing the champion pair for £180 on behalf of T Holmes Livestock, Lockerbie.

Reserve Champion was also found in the Beltex cross section the second prize pen from loyal Castle supporters Messrs Munro, Invercharron which were knocked out at £145 to Messrs John M Munro Butchers Dingwall.

Overall another solid lamb trade greeted vendors as more lambs are coming forward being off of feed or forage crop. Ewes once again met a firm enquiry for all classes with meat and the better end dearer.

Judging proceedings this year lay in the hands of Mr E MacDonald on behalf of weekly prime stock supporters John M Munro Butchers, Dingwall.

The verdict: "Ewen had the unenviable task of judging one of the best, if not the best show of prime cattle to have graced the ring in Dingwall. The judge found his champion from the continental bullock class a Limousine cross consigned by Mr Callum Maciver, Easter Strath of Auchterflow with the judge backing his decision purchasing his champion for 500.0p per kg (£3225.00).

"The reserve ticket was awarded to the first time prize continental heifer consigned by renown north of Scotland Showman Mr Michael Robertson of Fodderletter Farms. This weapon of a Limousin cross heifer who has a successful summer show circuit season, most notably standing reserve champion commercial at Echt show grossed the top price today of £3,384.00 for 470.0p per kg selling across the border to B &T Kitson, High Street, Northallerton."

Champion Native for the second year in a row was awards Messrs Fettes, Braes of Enzie for an Aberdeen Angus cross bullock which was bought by W & J Cameron, Burnside of Edingight, Keith.”
