Redshank come in 'spectacular numbers' to the Easter Ross reserve

BIRDWATCHERS lured by waders and wildfowl attracted in spectacular numbers to an Easter Ross reserve will soon be able to do so from a purpose-built hide.

RSPB Scotland has announced that it is replacing the birdwatching hide at its Udale Bay nature reserve with a new purpose-built viewing facility.

The reserve, located on the Black Isle near Jemimaville, hosts spectacular numbers of wading birds and wildfowl during the autumn and winter months.

Site manager Steph Elliott explained, "We expect the works to take about six weeks in total. During this period the reserve will be without a hide but I’m sure that our regular visitors will much enjoy the new facility which should provide a much more comfortable viewing experience.

"We hope to host larger numbers of visitors than at present and that the new hide will become an attraction to local people and visitors to the area who wish to experience the wildlife spectacle at Udale.

"The development forms part of our Easter Ross Wildlife Trail project and I am very grateful for the support of Highland Leader which has helped to make this happen."

Ms Elliott said that the work is due be complete by the end of March.

The project is being part financed by the Scottish Government and the European Community Highland LEADER 2007-2013 Programme.
