A ROSS-SHIRE dog owner took to social media to heap praise on a crew of soft-hearted bin men who have proved they're a doggy's delight.

The team has become so fond of Peggy the cocker spaniel they now leave little bone-shaped dog biscuits on the bin after every round.

Tweeting a picture of his pooch sitting next to the newly-emptied bin where two little dog biscuits are perched, her owner Neil Lancaster, who lives near Killen on the Black Isle, wrote: "This is why Peggy loves the Highland bin men...top work chaps. She's just sad she missed you whilst on her walk".

The former London police officer, who relocated to the Highlands four years ago when he retired from his role as a detective sergeant to embark on a successful novel-writing career, said: "The bin men always make a big fuss of Peggy when they come round.

"I watch from the window, two or three of them crowd round the gate and pet her...and she's always utterly delighted to see them. I came back from a walk with her the other day and saw they had left two dog biscuits on the top of it for her and it just made me laugh. Having lived in the south of England, I can tell you this sort of thing doesn't happen down there."

Peggy's owner was touched to see the bin men had left doggy biscuits.

The tweet was seen by Highland Council who replied saying: "Thanks for the compliment, we will pass it on to the team."

Mr Lancaster, who is almost finished his second novel following the success of his first recently-published effort, Going Dark, replied: "My pleasure...I am always impressed to see how cheerful and happy they seem, a credit to you."
