VETERANS have received a cash boost thanks to the fundraising efforts of an Alness social enterprise.

ILM Highland recently held a Big Brew Up event to help raise funds for the local Ross and Cromarty SSAFA branch.

SSAFA is an armed forces charity that provides lifelong support for our Forces and their families.

ILM staff and visitors to the event managed to raise a respectable £200, which will help contribute towards the activities of the charity.

SSAFA and ILM’s Highland Veterans Handyperson Service are both partners of the Unforgotten Forces initiative – a link-up of 14 leading organisations that support older veterans and their families.

The Highland veterans handyperson service is specifically aimed at aged armed forces veterans living in the Highlands and Moray.

It provides help with small repairs and home maintenance, including home security and safety measures.

"This service gives aged veterans increased peace of mind and additional comfort, enabling them to live independently in their homes for longer," said a spokesman.

"No charge is made for the handyperson’s time or travel costs."

ILM Highland also delivers a number of other services including an electronic equipment recycling service, an electrical goods shop in Alness, and a care and repair service providing adaptations for the elderly and people living with a disability across Ross-shire and Sutherland.

Through the Unforgotten Forces partnership, ILM Highland also provides referrals to services that assist with a range of matters including larger independent living adaptations and repairs, sight and hearing support, emotional support, general advice and practical support.

And the organisation also seeks to tackle isolation and loneliness, and offer financial support.
