THE Belladrum Tartan Heart festival, which has a "superheroes" theme this year, is going carbon clever.

The sold-out festival near Beauly, which is now in its 12th year, has become the newest signatory to Highland Council’s the Carbon CLEVER Declaration.

Carbon CLEVER, which has the aim of a low carbon Highlands by 2025, will be running an exciting programme of events at Belladrum including a treasure hunt, pub quiz, a "Carbon Court", as well as a team of "Green" police, who will be promoting good behaviour in fun and interactive ways with festival goers.

Joe Gibbs is the director of the Belladrum festival which is held between August 6 and 8.

He said: "We are really looking forward to working with the Carbon CLEVER team over the coming weeks in the run-up to the festival, and very much buy in to the whole Carbon CLEVER ethos.

"The festival has an excellent record in terms of sustainability, but we recognise that there’s always more we can do."

Stephen Carr, Principal Policy Officer – Climate Change at the Highland Council, said: "It’s fantastic for Carbon CLEVER to be part of Belladrum this year, and we are very grateful to the organisers for having us on board.

"The team are really looking forward to engaging with festival goers, and our programme of events is going to be exciting, fun and interactive."
