A BEHIND-the-scenes tour at one of Ross-shire's largest supermarkets proved to be an enjoyable eye-opener for a group of school pupils and some of their teachers.

A 10-strong group from St Clement's in Dingwall, accompanied by four teachers, were escorted on a guided tour of the local Tesco by its community champion, Michelle Mackay.

Michelle said later: "I can't begin to tell you how much excitement and joy this brought to these kids.

"I took them through our warehouse, backyard and to see inside a delivery van. I told them how the dot com shopping is done, took them into our produce chill and frozen food store. None of them could believe how cold these rooms were. They got to see inside our in-store bakery, where a baker was preparing rolls and they ended their visit with being shown our checkouts and having a go at scanning items!

"They guys fielded me some excellent questions at the end of our tour with one boy asking how many pizzas we sold! They couldn't believe when I said it could be in the thousands!

"This was an incredibly enjoyable experience for all of us but especially those kids!"
