A WOMAN who died in a weekend car crash near Beauly has been named as Mina MacKenzie (77).

Mrs MacKenzie, a widow of Tomich Holdings near Beauly, was killed after her micro car was involved in a smash with a Citreon C4 on the A862 Inverness to Beauly road at Lovat Bridge just after 8pm on Saturday night.

The male driver of the Citreon escaped unhurt.

The road was closed for six hours while police carried out an accident investigation.

Fire crews from Beauly and Inverness attended and cut the victim free, but Mrs MacKenzie died at the scene.

Mrs MacKenzie was well known in Beauly where she was active in the community and a church attender.
