A BEAR hunt has been instigated in an Easter Ross community seeking to keep spirits up during the coronavirus lockdown.

Hilton of Cadboll Primary School shared the idea to bring some fun to daily walks permitted for exercise during the lockdown imposed by the Government in a bid to slow down spread of the virus.

With pupils now officially in the Easter holiday period – started early after schools were instructed to close their doors early as social distancing measures were introduced – efforts are being made in various areas to help bind communities together during unprecedented times.

Hilton of Cadboll Primary has invited anyone interested to get involved — simply by placing a bear in their windows.

It said: "Let’s start a bear hunt!

"Everyone who wants to participate, put a teddy bear at your window and families can go on a bear hunt when out for their daily walk. Let’s spread some more fun! It would be great to see photos of your adorable bears! Don’t worry if you don’t have a bear, a soft toy will have the same effect!

“We’re going on a bear hunt, we’re going to catch a big one!”

The move follows the spread of rainbow pictures in windows across the county.

Those have given children something to get busy with during the lockdown period and acted as a symbol of hope for better times ahead.

The idea has been warmly welcomed in the local comunity.

"Aw, love this. The girls love the bear hunt story so we will definitely need to do this," wrote one. "My bear is in my window," said another. "Great idea and you're never too old."
