Awards hope for Gairloch and Loch Ewe community group

GALE (Gairloch and Loch Ewe Action Forum) has been shortlisted in the celebrating thriving communities category at the Highlands and Islands Thistle Awards 2023.

The award recognises organisations that have made significant contributions in delivering for the local community and enhancing the visitor experience. GALE has been acknowledged for its commitment to responsible tourism, collaborative efforts, and positive impact on the region.

GALE Action Forum represents communities in the Gairloch and Loch ewe area.

Its purpose is to socially, environmentally and economically regenerate the area through participatory community action and community owned social enterprise. It Runs The GALE Centre as a community hub

Managing director Janet Miles said: “We are all thrilled that the hard work and dedication of our board, staff and volunteers is recognised by being shortlisted for such a prestigious award.”

The nominees were assessed on three key criteria:

n Delivering for the local community and visitor experience: GALE has implemented initiatives that enhance the overall experience in Gairloch and Loch Ewe through organising community events and supporting local businesses.

n Building upon collaboration: GALE has actively sought partnerships with local organisations, businesses, and individuals.

n Commitment to responsible tourism: GALE has taken significant steps to ensure activities and initiatives are environmentally friendly, culturally sensitive and economically sustainable.

The winners of the Highlands and Islands Thistle Awards will be announced at a prestigious ceremony on Friday, November 10, at the Drumrossie Hotel in Inverness.

Winners from each category will then be put forward as regional finalists in the National Thistle Awards scheme, representing the Highlands and Islands.
