Avalanche risk warnings for a number of Highland mountains have been raised to "moderate" in the wake of continuing heavy snows.

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS) has issued moderate/yellow warnings for the Torridon, North Cairngorm and South Cairngorm ranges.

The Torridon alert zone extends from the Applecross peninsula and north and east through the Loch Torridon, Loch Maree, Loch a' Bhroain and Loch Fannich areas.

Low hazard levels remained in place in the Creag Meagaidh, Lochaber and Glencoe peaks at the time of writing on Monday morning.

"Human triggered avalanches are possible, good visibility and route selection are important, especially in steep locations," said a spokesperson for the SAIS.

"Careful group management and good spacing will reduce loading on slopes. Use mountain features (ridges and scoured slopes etc) to travel safely."
