Work on the Stromeferry bypass will again take place this autumn.

ROCK stabilisation works will take place on the Stromeferry bypass once again from September 9 to November 8 this year, Highland Council has revealed.

The dates for the night-time work were revealed following a public drop-in session in Lochcarron Village Hall, where people were able to find out more about the next phase of slope stabilisation works above the A890.

The 2018 annual inspection report highlighted areas for the council to consider and plan future works.

This autumn's work will require night time road closures from 10pm to 7am, with convoys operating during the day. There will also be one weekend closure from Friday night until Monday morning over the weekend of September 21 and 22.

“The works this autumn are planned to replace section of existing rock protection in areas identified during survey work carried out last year," said Garry Smith, Highland Council’s principal engineer with the development and infrastructure service. "This forms part of the council's on-going maintenance programme for the rock slope.

“There will be daytime traffic management through the whole of the works but delays should not be significant as there is no ‘road to rail’ works this year.

“Traffic will use the existing road during the day so there will also be no weight restriction this year and the route will be available for all vehicles.”
