A Muir of Ord man who banged on the door of a house in Dingwall and then assaulted one of his female friends who had come to visit him was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

Michael MacArthur (49), now of Balvaird Terrace, was arrested after incidents in Brown Square, Dingwall, on September 3, 2020.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told police were called to the area to deal with MacArthur.

He was told to desist from banging on the door and when he was being arrested, he struggled violently with police.

MacArthur had previously punched one of his friends in the face on the same date.

He admitted threatening behaviour, resisting arrest and assault.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said: "He had not taken his medication, took alcohol and Xanax (street valium) to self medicate. The lady is a friend and he has since apologised.

"He is now free from illicit substances and is receiving monthly injections to reduce his cravings."
