Efforts to restore the community hub status of a landmark Easter Ross building while honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in conflict are being put in the frame via a special art exhibition.

The exhibition opening on Friday, November 4 will raise funds for Invergordon British Legion, Invergordon Museum and Poppy Scotland.

Generous artists working across a variety of media have donated pieces for the event which follows on from the success of an inaugural art show last year.

It is being pulled together by keen local artist Louise Holling, whose dad, Hugh Ross, is secretary of the local legion branch.

Hopes are high the free to enter event will provide a boost to efforts to return the local hub status of the legion.

Ms Holling said: “Last year, when we we were just newly coming out of coronavirus restrictions, the event raised £800 over the weekend. We’re hoping the opening evening will be a bit busier this year.

“The museum will also be open alongside the art exhibition which will feature everything from bookmarks costing £5 to an oil painting for £800.”

It opens on Friday, November 4 from 6pm to 9pm with the promise of some music from local performer, Dagger Gordon.

It will then open over the weekend of November 5/6 from 10am to 4pm.

Ms Holling added: “We asked for art donations which we will exhibit and sell with funds going to the causes.

“Whilst the main theme is poppies, I have accepted anything related to the Royal Legion, or the Armed Forces. The stuff coming in is just beautiful.”

It is expected that ceramics and crafts will be included along with paintings.

Pupils from local primary schools South Lodge and Park will have a chance to get involved in a kids’ corner on activities which fits in with the school curriculum.

Ms Holling added: “The Legion in Invergordon used to be such a great hub. They need more funding and this event aims to inject just a bit back into it for the benefit of the community.

“It’s a great location and a really nice building.”
