Four people have been arrested in connection with a brawl in Castle Street, Inverness on Saturday night, which left onlookers shocked.

The incident occurred shortly after 8pm.

A member of the public shot video of the incident in which one man is seen taking dozens of blows to the head.

Councillor Duncan Macpherson, who was on the scene at the time, said: "This is not good enough for the people of Inverness.

"I am horrified that this could go in Inverness. Hopefully the police will bring people to justice.

"I came out of Castle Street Restaurant and shouted at them, but as the bouncer from a nearby establishment was already overcome, there was very little that anyone could do.

"I saw three men taken to hospital in ambulances.

"In all the years I have lived in Inverness I have never seen anything like this. It is despicable and unacceptable."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 8.20pm on Saturday, 29 August, we received reports of a disturbance on Castle Street, Inverness.

“A 22-year-old man sustained serious injury and was taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.

“Four men aged, 41, 38, 28 and 20 have been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
