An after dinner argument with his partner cost an Alness man a £370 fine when he appeared at a Highland court.

Sheriff Robert Frazer was told that 32-year-old fish farm worker and father of three, Steven Johnstone from Kirkside, had been picked up from work by his then partner on June 28 last year.

Fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh said: "They had dinner together but there was an argument. He was asked to leave and initially refused. He kicked a clothes horse and smashed a plant pot and then he left."

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans told the court; "It was an argument over money which escalated and he lost his composure. He is now in a new relationship."

Sheriff Frazer told Johnstone: "You know you shouldn't behave like this."
