Senior pupil at Culloden Academy tests positive for coronavirus

Letters have been sent to parents after a Culloden Academy a senior pupil tested positive for Covid-19.

A group of people have been advised to self-isolate for 14 days after being identified as possible close contacts.

The school will be open tomorrow as normal to pupils and staff.

Dr Ken Oates, NHS Highland's consultant in public health medicine, said: "We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with the head teacher."

The affected pupil was last at school on Tuesday.

Contact tracing is ongoing.

Advice has been sent to parents.

A Highland Council spokeswoman said: “A small number of people from Culloden Academy have been advised to self-isolate for 14 days as they have been identified as a possible close contact of a positive Covid case.

“Letters have been sent out to the school community today.

“The Highland Council continues to work in partnership with NHS Highland Health Protection Team.

“The school has an enhanced cleaning regime in place and remains open.”

The development follows earlier cases at Gairloch High in Wester Ross and Dornoch Academy in Sutherland. A pupil at Millburn Academy in Inverness was also confirmed as having tested positive.
