A Ross-shire personal trainer was angry when he was refused permission to enter a bar from which he had already been banned.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 33-year-old Ross Houston, of Fairmuir Road, Muir of Ord shouted and swore at door staff outside the Malt Room in Inverness and then spat chewing gum at the two men.

The offence occurred on July 16 last year and he admitted threatening or abusive behaviour.

Fiscal depute Shay Treanor said: "He was told by door staff he was barred and he replied: 'I know I am barred but I will f...ing try anyway.' The chewing gum landed on the shoe of one of the stewards."

Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said the father of two was "embarrassed and says it shouldn't have happened. He accepts he behaved poorly".

Fining Houston £420, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald told him: "If you are barred, you are barred for a reason. Don't go back there and don't spit at people."
