A young person from Alness is "absolutely delighted" to have landed a top post in the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP).

Mollie McGoran has been elected as chairperson of the youth-led, democratic organisation which aims to represent the young people of Scotland.

Miss McGoran is an experienced Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP), having recently held the office of vice chairperson of the SYP.

Speaking following her election to office, the MSYP for Inverness and Nairn, Highland said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been elected Scottish Youth Parliament Chair. I am so excited to continue my youth parliamentary journey in this new role and to work with the new board and membership."

Ms McGoran has been involved in youth forum work locally in Alness and the Highland Youth Parliament for many years. Entering her fourth year as a MSYP, she has held a long list of posts and offices all dedicated to supporting and representing young people, not only in the Highlands, but also nationally.

As chairperson, she will now lead on SYP’s activities over the next year. Alongside her SYP colleagues, Ms McGoran will be supported by members of High Life Highland’s Youth Team.

Speaking following her appointment, Audrey Anthoney, one of HLH’s senior youth development officers said: “We are delighted for Mollie. It’s so well deserved, and she’ll be brilliant in the role. She’s a great role model for the other Highland MSYPs and we’re really looking forward to supporting Mollie and seeing her develop into her new position.”
