An Alness man has admitted spitting in the eye of a police officer after kicking off while being arrested.

James Bradshaw (40) came to the attention of police during a disturbance at his home address in the town's Coul Park.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard he appeared to be under the influence of drink or drugs when officers arrived on the scene.

He head-butted one officer and spat at another.

He was also shouting and swearing calling them pr***s, fiscal depute Susan Love told the court.

After being taken to Raigmore Hospital he lunged at one of the police constables and attempted to trip them up.

He then spat into the eye of an officer.

The police had to put two spit hoods on Bradshaw and were provided with visors from hospital staff.

Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald deferred sentence for background reports and a restriction of liberty assessment until February 27.

Bradshaw was released on bail meantime.
