A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER in her 80s from Alness is planning to abseil off Raigmore Hospital to raise funds for Ross-based charity, Blythswood Care.

For many years Joan Wells has been a regular volunteer at Blythswood’s Deephaven warehouse where she helps to sort donated goods for aid and for selling in charity shops.

“As soon as we announced the abseil, Joan was the first to step forward,” says Blythswood’s head of fundraising, Danny Muschate. “We hope that many more will join her to raise funds for Blythswood.”

Joan who is an active walker and swimmer says: “If I don’t do it now I might not get the chance again, because I’m getting on a bit!”

The multi-charity event is slated for Saturday, March 31 and Blythswood has two ropes allowing a total of 80 people to participate. No previous experience is required for the 185 foot descent from the hospital’s chimney.

“Anyone over the age of 13 can apply although those under 18 require parental consent,” Danny says. “All we ask is that you pledge to raise £100 for Blythswood Care.

“And if you would rather not go over the edge yourself, you can always sponsor Joan to do it for you.”
