HEARTLESS thieves have put a spoke in the wheel of a John O’Groats to Land’s End fundraiser set to benefit a terminally ill girl.

Police today issued an appeal for the recovery of one of two high-value road bicycles which went missing in Alness on Friday.

One of the bicycles was subsequently recovered in the town but the other is still missing.

Its owner was taking part in an end-to-end for a children’s charity. It is described as a black and white Bianchi Via Nerone.

The bicycle has a yellow saddle and a rear wheel frame attached for carrying saddle bags.

Northern Constabulary say the bikes were initially removed around 5am on Friday morning last week from the rear of the Station Hotel, Alness.

While one was recovered, the other remains missing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Alness Police Station on 01349 882222 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
