BOOKWORMS are being invited to bag a bargain while helping raise much-needed funds for a Black Isle museum this weekend.

Hundreds of pre-owned titles will be up for grabs at the Big Book Sale being staged at Fortrose Town Hall and the neighbouring Seaforth Lodge on Saturday between 10.30am and 1pm.

It will benefit Rosemarkie's Groam House Museum. Books will be priced from just 50p and volunteers will also be serving coffee and home baking in the Seaforth Lodge.

Several local authors will be signing and selling their own books, including Iona Nicol, with her new book about Munlochy Animal Aid, James MacKay of the Kirkmichael Trust, Morven-May MacCallum, author of Finding Joy, her battle with Lyme Disease and Shona MacLean. Anthony Bryant and Russell Turner will also be in attendance.

The museum is renowned as an outstanding centre for Pictish and Celtic art.

Its display is focused on 15 carved Pictish stones which all originated in Rosemarkie, an important centre for early Christianity. The pride of the permanent display is the magnificent Rosemarkie cross slab, decorated with Pictish symbols and Christian crosses. Groam House also displays the work of artist George Bain (1881-1968), who has been dubbed the ‘father of modern Celtic design’.
