A FORMER Ross-shire railway station is offering house-hunters the chance to steam ahead and create a dream home.

Strathcarrron Railway Station building, built in 1869 and located on the world-famous Kyle line, has been put on the market.

It could be a fantasy pad for rail buffs: the building backs on to the railway line and also sees steam trains and the famous Royal Scotsman passing through.

The unique property near Lochcarron in Wester Ross has an asking price of around £160,000.

Coming complete with a modern extension and a two-bedroom apartment, agents say the property is ideal for buyers looking for a renovation project, whether it be to transform the property into a large family home or use the extensive space for a business.

Though in need to upgrading, the station building and modern extension, which was put in place 15 years ago, comes with six rooms.

There are plenty of railway reminders in the property which would lend great character to a house conversion.

Joanne Stennett, property manager for Bell Ingram in Inverness which is marketing the station, said: "The station building is certainly one of our more unique and unusual properties.

"It really offers a blank canvas and there is an endless list of what can be done with the property, subject to necessary consents.

"Commercial buyers could start up any number of businesses; there could be potential for a quirky boutique or a gift shop which would be perfect for catching the tourist trade.

"Once renovated, it has potential to make a beautiful two-bed flat with an office space perfect for smaller businesses.

"There is also scope for the creative house-hunters to make the property into a larger family home for bigger families."

• Viewing is strictly by appointment through Bell Ingram’s Inverness office.
