A FIRE alarm in an Easter Ross secondary school triggered a call-out for two Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliances yesterday morning.

The alarm was raised at Invergordon Academy at 10.08am.

It's understood it was in response to the rapid heating of a mobile phone battery which had been dropped by accident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.08am on Thursday, December 1 to a fire alarm activation at Invergordon Academy in Invergordon.

“Operations control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene, however the fire had been extinguished prior to their arrival.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
