PLANS for special workshops aimed at helping businesses in Wester Ross make the most of a boom in adventure travel are to be rescheduled, organisers have announced.

In partnership with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), West Coast Waters is planning to host two free-to-attend events to help Wester Ross businesses understand how to get involved with the initiative and grow their international reach.

But the initial plans to host the events at Inverewe Gardens in Poolewe on February 24 and 25 are on hold – with the intention to reschedule for a future date.

When they are held, the events are expected to include a one-day information session, followed by the option to attend a workshop on day two to further explore development of the international market.

“We have unfortunately had to postpone this event in Wester Ross with the intention to reschedule to a date in the future,” said a spokesman.

“We will release details of the new dates as soon as possible.”

A collaboration of 22 west coast destination groups, West Coast Waters has been set up in conjunction with the Year of Coasts and Waters to entice more adventure seekers and travellers to the area.

Its plans include a range of events, including a 20-week community-based baton relay, a major maritime storytelling programme and the creation of new nature trials.

“The information session, open to anyone involved in tourism who is interested in discovering more about West Coast Waters, will include speakers from Wild Scotland and the University of the Highlands and Islands Centre for Recreation and Tourism Research.

Final dates for the event will be confirmed in due course.
