Motorists have been left concerned for their safety after a marking error created confusion on a heavily used road in Tain.
The error occurred when a Highland Council team were painting road markings which were required after extensive resurfacing works on Shore Road.
But the "illogical" marking mishap, which now directs traffic over the railway bridge to Links Playing Fields, has left road users confused over how to drive on the route, with no give way markings visible.
Road markings previously directed vehicles to turn to the right towards Tain railway station and Tesco, with give way markings instructing traffic to wait before coming over the bridge from the Links.
But the new markings, which were applied just over a week ago, have left drivers puzzled as to what they should be doing when approaching the heavily used turn in the road.
Several drivers took to social media to express their concerns over traffic coming from the Links, citing several "near misses" this week.
One resident called the marking mishap an "accident waiting to happen", while another said: "We were coming out of there on Saturday and two cars, one from the Links and one from Tesco, stopped very abruptly and neither knew who had right of way anymore."
Another motorist said: "Someone pulled straight out in front of us the other day as we were going round to Tesco. If you look on Google Maps you can see quite clearly that there used to be 'give way' lines there."
It is understood that Highland Council are aware of the problem and are now taking measures to resolve it.
