THE A9 has reopened to traffic near Alness following a multi-vehicle road crash earlier today.

The crash blocked the road in both directions roughly 600 metres north of the Skiach Services at around 10.30am. It is understood three vehicles were involved. Police and Traffic Scotland described the crash as "serious", but no details were released as to whether there were any casualties.

Diversions were put in place through Alness via the B9176 and B817 while the crash was investigated and the road cleared.

At 5.25pm Traffic Scotland revealed that the road had now reopened and that traffic was "coping well with no current delays".
