MOTORISTS are being warned that the busy A835 trunk road linking Dingwall with Ullapool is now closed between Gorstan and Braemore due to flooding.

The announcement, at 2pm, came just an hour after Traffic Scotland warned that "adverse weather conditions" had "restricted the road in both directions" at Garve, and also follows the issuing of a Sepa flood warning for the Garve and Contin areas centred on the Black Water.

Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) issued its flood warning for Garve and Contin on Saturday lunchtime.

A Sepa spokesman said: "Agricultural land, low lying access roads and properties in and around Garve and Contin are at risk of flooding.

"Heavy rainfall is expected to continue throughout the day with river levels rising into the late afternoon."

That warning was issued juest 30 minutes before Traffic Scotland's advice to drivers that the A835 at Garve was "restricted in both directions due to adverse weather conditions".

The closure of the A835 is the latest in a number of Ross-shire routes to be hit by flooding this weekend – with the A9 closed in both directions at Tomich, and the coast road between Dingwall and the Ardullie Roundabout at the northern end of the Cromarty Bridge also shut to traffic.
