A long section of the A82 that has been closed for a day due to widespread fallen trees has partially reopened.

The busy trunk road had been closed between Spean Bridge and Invermoriston since yesterday after Storm Gerrit wreaked havoc on the Highland transport network.

Trees were felled by the storm-force winds in multiple locations, with engineers working through the night to try to tackle the large amount of fallen lumber.

And, shortly before 3pm on Thursday, Bear Scotland – which maintains the route – confirmed that the section between Spean Bridge and Invergarry was now open to vehicles again.

The news means traffic can now travel up the Road to the Isles.

The section of A82 between Invergarry and Fort Augustus still remained closed at the time of writing, but traffic heading up to Loch Ness or Inverness can also now flow again, using a detour via the A87 and A887 between Invermoriston and Invergarry.
