A 90-year-old's Suilven climbing challenge has smashed through the £250,000 mark after inspiring people all over the world.

Margaret Payne, who lives in Ardvar, Assynt, had hoped to raise £10,000 for the NHS and the Highland Hospice by climbing the equivalent height of the famous Sutherland summit on her house's stairs.

She began her challenge on Easter Sunday and hopes to complete the 2398ft climb within a couple of months.

When she does she will have climbed her stairs 282 times.

And her determination to raise funds for the NHS during the Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown has struck a chord with the general public. She had already passed the £200,000 by Saturday.

And as of 10.30am on Monday, she had surpassed the quarter-of-a-million pound mark - raising £255,999.05p, or £311,462.61p once Gift Aid is factored in.
