CALL centre giant Capgemini has said it remains committed to having a Highland operation after it emerged that jobs are set to be lost at its Inverness centre.

Almost 50 jobs are believed to be at risk at the company’s headquarters at Cowan House, previously home to Highlands and Islands Enterprise, but the French owned outsourcing group has issued a reassurance that it plans to remain in the region and will be recruiting more staff.

A company spokeswoman said: "Capgemini UK employs around 500 people in the Highlands and we are constantly recruiting and adapting our teams. We are proud of the work being delivered by our colleagues in the Inverness office.

"As part of a structural adjustment, which is a standard business practice, a number of roles will be moved elsewhere and the majority of colleagues impacted by this change will have the opportunity to be redeployed in other positions.

"Capgemini UK is committed to the Highlands as a strategic delivery centre and we are actively recruiting, including for a number of cybersecurity positions."

The company moved from its previous home in Henderson Road into Cowan House at Inverness business and retail park as part of its plans to establish a global centre in the Highland Capital, and announced it would be creating further 500 jobs in the city.
