A huge success from the moment it first opened in the summer of 2021 there's often a bit of a wait to get a table here – but it's definitely worth it. Their mac and cheese offering is top notch, piping hot and incredibly cheesy. And once you've done eating there is plenty explore in the gift and home shop, farm shop and women's wear plus plenty for the garden. The on-site Children's Farm, offering youngsters the chance to get up close to a range of cuddly critters also reopens after the winter break on March 31. All in all a great day out that doesn't have to break the bank.

Just be aware it doesn't open on Sundays.

Eat in the bar or the separate restaurant area, either way you'll enjoy a hearty plateful cooked to perfection in this traditional Highland pub. It is of course very handy for a post-lunch or dinner firthside walk to burn off the calories, offering a real sense of getting out of the hustle and bustle of town without actually going very far!

Of course, if hustle and bustle is in fact your thing then this city centre venue may be just the right place to enjoy your cheese and carbs repast. Billing itself as offering "industrial prohibition with a splash of steampunk" it certainly has an edge of cool. And if you fancy something more than just past and cheese with oyur mac and cheese here you can add haggis, bacon or even BBQ pulled pork to you plateful.

Tuckers Inn

Saltburn Road

Invergordon

Top tip for visiting this Easter Ross eatery – if you get the chance, ask for a window seat. On a beautiful sunny day (okay, we obviously don't get enough of them, but they're not entirely unknown) the view of the Cromarty Firth and across the Black Isle is a joy. And the food isn't half bad either. No frills, no fuss, just hearty fare and good service.

The Mallard

Station Square

By the train station this traditional pub offers a friendly welcome for all. Portion sizes are generous and the food is tasty. What more needs to be said? Enjoy!
