BUDDING filmmakers are being given the chance to show what they can do in 24 hours as part of a challenge to showcase skills and creativity.

UHI North Highland will pilot its new 24-Hour Film Challenge at its Alness campus, challenging participants to create a short film of between three to five minutes in that time. Filmmakers will be given a theme, a line of dialogue and a prop that must be included and will then have 24 hours to write, shoot, edit and submit.

The films will then be screened before a panel of judges select a winning entry. The winner will receive £500, have their film screened at the Inverness Film Festival and will receive a pair of complimentary cinema tickets from Eden Court.

“We are very excited to launch the 24-Hour Film Challenge,” said Anna McPherson, organiser of the event and programme leader on the BA (Hons) Contemporary Film Making in the Highlands and Islands degree.

“It provides a unique opportunity for filmmakers to push themselves creatively and technically. Our Alness campus is located in a diverse landscape in Easter Ross, surrounded by nature, culture and heritage, providing a rich location to tell stories about people and places. We can’t wait to see the incredible films that our participants will create. I would like to thank our sponsors, Eden Court and UHI Philanthropic fund for supporting the pilot event.”

The film challenge is open to individuals or teams of filmmakers aged 16+, including current students at UHI, and hopes to attract participants from across the Highlands and Islands.

Registration for the UHI 24 Hour Film Challenge is now open. To register, or for more information, visit https://www.northhighland.uhi.ac.uk/24hrfilmchallenge/
