12 flood warnings in force across the Highlands amid heavy rain and weather alerts

A dozen flood warnings were in place across the Highlands on Monday morning after heavy and persistent rain drenched the region overnight.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has issued flood alerts for a number of Highland areas, including Caithness, Sutherland, Wester Ross, Easter Ross, the Great Glen, Findhorn, Nairn, Speyside, Skye and Lochaber.
It also has 13 higher flood warnings in place in Scotland – 12 of which are in the north.
At the time of writing these 12 were:
- Strath Oykel;
- Strathglass;
- Moy Bridge;
- Spey Dam to Newtonmore;
- Sluggan to Dulnain Bridge;
- Newtonmore to Kingussie;
- Nairn Side (Cawdor);
- Kingussie to Kincraig;
- Kincraig to Invergdruie;
- Aviemore/Dalfaber;
- Lochybridge;
- Loch Lochy to Torcastle

An active yellow weather warning for rain remained in place at the time of writing, with the Met Office alert likely to remain in place until 9pm on Monday amid forecasts for up to 170mm to fall in some places.

Meanwhile, Traffic Scotland has warned motorists to beware localised flooding on the region's roads. It comes after it reported flooding on the A9 in Inverness.
