A HIGHLAND top scenic route would be the best road trip for electric car drivers according to a recent survey.

Data from car leasing comparison site Leasing.com saw the popular North Coast 500 emerge as the most accessible and stress-free road trip destination for electric vehicle (EV) drivers, with more rapid charge points (CPs) than any other route, and a charge point every 17 miles.

According to the research, one in in five UK motorists are seeking EVs for their next new car lease, with EV-friendly road trips expected to continue their popularity.

The 516-mile NC500 reached the top spot among the routes taken into account thanks to te 13 rapid CPs present on the road, with 30 charging points in total.

The NC500 is closely followed by the Coastal Way in Wales, which boasts 51 chargers in total – four of which allowing for rapid charge.

England’s most popular route is a journey through Devon and Cornwall along the Atlantic Highway, followed by the Causeway Coastal Route in Northern Ireland.

Dave Timmis Founder and CEO of Leasing.com says that the most loved road trips are now more accessible to EV drivers than ever: “Since Covid became a part of our lives, many of us have taken to exploring the UK instead of going abroad, and now many of the iconic road trips are achievable in an EV. It means more of us can enjoy life on the road, while still being able to reduce our emissions and lowering our carbon footprint.”
