Ross County manager Don Cowie hoping to hit the ground running with transfers when the window opens at the start of January

Ross County are already working on deals for when the January transfer window opens, according to manager Don Cowie.

Speaking in the aftermath of the Staggies’ 2-2 draw with Hearts, Cowie knows that the transfer window will have opened before his side next take to the pitch at Aberdeen on Thursday afternoon.

He has already discussed where County may look to strengthen, and has now revealed that time is of the essence as far as he is concerned in the transfer market.

“This is a different year compared to the last few, because there’s no winter break,” he said.

“If you can do your deals early, that can have an impact, so we are actively looking to do something for the start of January.

“Nothing is concrete, but we are looking to get someone in to help us out.”

With the possibility of incomings also comes the chance that those on loan could return to their parent clubs.

While County have already confirmed that Jay Henderson will see out the season with Ayr United in the Championship, the likes of Andrew MacLeod and George Robesten have each spent the first half of the season in the Highland League after featuring in the early weeks of the campaign for County.

“We’re always evaluating Andrew and George,” Cowie added.

“They’re both doing really well, so if we believe they can come back here to play and have an impact then we will do that.

“If not, they are both at really good clubs, so we will see how the squad shapes up as the month goes on.”
