Ross County manager Don Cowie admits Staggies’ form is a ‘big concern’ with just three games left to secure Premiership football in Dingwall next season

Ross County manager Don Cowie admits his side’s form is a significant concern going into the final three matches of the 2024/25 Premiership season.

The Staggies fell to a sixth league defeat in-a-row against Hearts, losing 3-1 thanks to a Lawrence Shankland double and Alan Forrest’s late goal.

Ronan Hale had opened the scoring in the tie, but the turnaround came much to the chagrin of Cowie, and the club’s supporters.

One saving grace for County is that results elsewhere mean that the gap to safety remains at two points, with the Highland side still to play the sides immediately below and above them in the table before closing the campaign back home against Motherwell.

Cowie, though, knows his side will need to improve to get the results they need in those matches to secure top flight football for another season.

“Our form is a big concern – it’s a challenging period, and I’m not going to hide from that,” Cowie said.

“I’ve had plenty of challenging periods in my career to get to here, so it’s nothing I haven’t faced before.

“As a group, we know what’s at stake. There are three games in the space of a week, and if we win all three we will be in the Premiership next season.

“That’s the challenge, and it starts against St Johnstone next Saturday.

“Results elsewhere don’t feel like a boost right now, but we haven’t lost any ground on Dundee. They are still a target for us to chase down, and we still have to play them.

“We have to make sure that we give ourselves a good opportunity to win the game against St Johnstone next Saturday.

“If we do that, it gives us a good platform going into Dundee.”
