Tain teenager Isabella Fioretti scores unanimous decision at Women’s Winter Box Cup in Manchester to earn fifth title with Inverness outfit Highland Boxing Academy
Isabella Fioretti continued to show her quality as the Highland Boxing Academy athlete claimed her fifth title at the Women’s Winter Box Cup.
Down in Manchester, the Tain teenager won by unanimous decision – with her biggest challenge in the ring being troublesome headgear.
However, even that could not stop the HBA star from adding the title to her collection, which already included the Development Championships, Scottish Golden Gloves, Great Britain Championships and Manchester Box Cup.
“She had a wee bit of an issue in the first round, because at the start of the fight the referee made her adjust her head-guard,” club head coach Liam Foy explained.
“It was fine, but then she had to adjust it, and then it was coming off which made it a total mess of a first round to be honest. It looked so bad, so she really needed a big second round to rectify that.
“She wasn’t getting beaten in the first round, but it looks bad to the judges, but she sorted it with a dominant second and third round to get the unanimous decision.
“It was another title for her, and another win – she’s still undefeated and going from strength to strength.
“I’ve said from the start that when we’ve got a talent like Isabella, we can’t just sit back and wait for things to happen domestically.
“We need to provide opportunities and look further afield, and that’s what we’re doing – and she’s repaying us with these performances and results.”
Fioretti is quickly closing in on the club record for individual titles.
Lewis Urquhart, Jason Russell and Ewan Gliniecki are all sitting at the top of that particular chart on six, but with time on Fioretti’s side Foy has no doubt that she will fly past the others.
In fact, her biggest challengers to that crown may actually be in some of the club’s younger boxers who are quickly building their own collection of championships.
“Six is the benchmark, but Isabella is only a youth, so she will sail past that,” Foy reasoned.
“There are others like Kian Stewart and Robert Stewart who are racking up the titles. Kian won his third title recently, and he hasn’t even boxed a full season for us.
“I’m not trying to oversell our club, but right now we’re the strongest we’ve ever been.
“We have an undefeated professional boxer in Ben Bartlett who is trying to nail down a fight for his second pro title, and we have the likes of Kian, Robert and Brodie Zineldin winning titles.
“Isabella is there with them, and there are loads more hot on their heels, so we’re in a really strong place.”
