Strathpeffer athlete called up to Scotland Cross Country squad

STRATHPEFFER athlete Hamish Hickey has been called up to the Scotland squad to compete at the British Cross Challenge and European Championship trials.

The 20-year-old is one of four athletes to compete for Scotland in the under-20's championship at Liverpool next Saturday.

The event will also be part of the selection process for the Great Britain squad for the European Championships in Portugal.

Hickey, who started his athletics career with Ross County Athletics Club, is currently at the University of Stirling and is training with Central Athletic Club.

Hickey claimed a silver medal at the Scottish Short Course Cross Country Championships in Kirkcaldy last week.

He also won team gold with Central Athletic Club.
