Last season's defeat will only motivate Ross Sutherland

Ross Sutherland skipper Jamie Johnston admits the hurt of last season’s National Bowl dethroning will only fire up his team in the rematch tomorrow.

A quirk of the first round draw has pitted the Stags, 2018 Murrayfield winners, away to Aberdeenshire, the 2019 champions.

Adding extra spice to the occasion is the fact it was the Woodside hosts who knocked out the Invergordon men in last year’s semi finals.

Forward Johnston (29), having played a part in his club’s greatest achievement, then experienced the deflation of last season’s semi final beating.

But he is convinced the team can reverse fortunes this time around.

“It is going to be a tough match,” Johnston said.

“Aberdeenshire have gone through a good rebuilding phase since dropping down the leagues two years ago."
