Derby match helped Ross Sutherland prepare for Aberdeenshire test

Ross Sutherland head coach John Mann believes his side are better prepared for Aberdeenshire this time around – because they just faced an even better Highland team.

Aberdeenshire knocked the Stags out of the Caledonia Bowl for the second year in a row in the 2019/20 curtain-raiser two weeks ago.

Last week, in the first Caledonia North Two league game of the season, the scores were closer against defending champions Highland 2nds losing 35-7.

But Mann reckons it was their local rivals who were the better side, giving him confidence that his team will be able to put up a better fight this time around.

“When we played at the weekend just passed, of our starting backs only one of them wasn’t 18,” he explained.

“I think even just having those extra two games under their belts will make a big difference."
