Ross County striker Jordan White looking to take advantage of ‘fragile’ Aberdeen to begin new year in style

Jordan White is hoping Ross County will be table to take advantage of a “fragile” Aberdeen side when the two teams face off in the opening match of 2025.

Despite their positions in the Scottish Premiership table, the Staggies have the advantage in the form book going into the clash at Pittodrie.

Two wins and five defeats from their last eight league matches have at least kept County out of the bottom two, whereas the Dons’ winless run over that same spell has seen them go from potential title challengers to battling for third.

More recent form is even more in favour of the Dingwall outfit, with four points from their last two games in stark contrast to Aberdeen’s three defeats in-a-row.

White, who got County’s last-gasp equaliser against Hearts last Sunday, is looking to make that count in the granite city – although he admits it will not be easy even with Aberdeen’s recent record.

"Yes, Aberdeen are struggling for form, but let's not get away from the fact how well they started this season,” White explained.

"If Aberdeen turn it on, they can be a really top side. We will certainly not be taking them lightly.

"They may just be a little bit fragile at the moment and, if we can, we will try to take advantage of that, but we must be on our mettle to come away with something at Pittodrie.”

Although County go into the game off the back of a draw against Hearts, the circumstances around the point made it feel far more positive.

Having been two goals behind, seen a third chalked off by VAR and the technology also used to deny Hearts a penalty kick, goals in the 97th and 99th minutes saw the Staggies salvage a share of the spoils.

Knowing that the point kept County above the Jambos in the league table, too, means it was a result to be celebrated far more than your average draw.

"I don't think I have ever been involved in a game like that, just in terms of the conditions,” White reflected.

"Our groundsman (Davie Fraser) always has our pitch top drawer, but with the way the weather has been with the torrential rain, there is nothing you can do about that.

"It all comes down to whichever team plays those conditions better.

"Hearts probably did just that for the majority of the game, but we simply never give up. We kept going.

"I knew that, once we got the first goal, we'd get another chance. We've managed to do that a few times over the last few years, especially at home.

"I was delighted, and Sunday really did feel like a win – it was crazy. It could also turn out to be a massive point for us. It was a really good feeling afterwards.”
