Ross County striker Jordan White admits players need to take responsibility for underwhelming Scottish Premiership form

Jordan White knows that Ross County fans are frustrated – but admits the players are the only ones who can spark a change of mood in the stands.

A run of one victory in eight matches has seen the Staggies slip closer and closer to the bottom of the Premiership table.

Perhaps more galling is that County had only scored four goals in that run, meaning there were no more than glimmers of hope throughout those disappointing results.

Last weekend was a new crescendo among the Staggies faithful, with a 2-1 defeat to 10-man St Mirren seeing half of the stadium leave the ground before the final whistle was blown.

White acknowledged that display was not good enough, and says he understands the response from fans, but knows that the only people who can turn things around are the players on the pitch.

“When they went down to 10 men, it felt like we were down to 10 men, so it wasn’t good enough,” White admitted.

“We got the goal as soon as we came out from half time, which is a boost, but we’re maybe waiting for something to happen - or for someone else to make something happen.

“We’ve all got to take responsibility for that. There’s no point in doing too much talking, because we have to do our talking on the pitch.

“We look to ourselves, and the manager and his coaching staff to put things right, because it’s not from a lack of effort on the pitch.

“For whatever reason, it’s just not clicking.

“We’re as frustrated as the fans, but we’re the ones on the pitch who can change that. It’s up to us to find a way to bounce back now.”

Some of the low points in County’s underwhelming form have been a 3-0 defeat away at Dundee United, a 5-0 defeat at Celtic and a 3-0 loss at home to Rangers.

White is under no illusions going into their Boxing Day trip to Dens Park, then, that improvements were needed – and quickly.

“I think we were fine before the two Old Firm games,” White reflected.

“Those games are different, and I don’t know if we’ve lost a bit of confidence from them.

“It shouldn’t really take that. We went down to Hibs, and it’s always going to be a tough game there.

“We had the lead, and we end up losing. I don’t know why, but it’s frustrating because moments in games are killing us and as a collective we are not doing well enough at the minute.

“That’s just the reality of it, so we’ve all got to take that on the chin.”
