St Mirren 1 (Tait)

Ross County 0

Ross County never really got going in Paisley as they fell to a 1–0 defeat against St Mirren.

The Staggies had a promising spell towards the end of the first half, but that was all they could muster going forward as Richard Tait's wondergoal consigned them to a third straight loss in the Premiership.

The visitors struggled to string passes together early on in Paisley, with hopeful balls forward only occasionally finding a teammate.

Instead it was St Mirren who dictated play, with Ryan Strain, Greg Kiltie and Jonah Ayungu at different times causing problems for the Staggies' defence.

Ayungu hit the woodwork 20 minutes in to the match – taking aim after Keanu Baccus had robbed Ben Purrington of possession – but seeing his effort from a fairly narrow angle cannon back off the post.

County did grow into the game as the half wore on, but shots on target remained few and far between with Curtis Main's curling effort that went high and wide the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock in the first 45 minutes.

It would not take long after the restart for the opening goal to come, but unfortunately for County it went the way of their hosts.

The Staggies failed to clear their lines when St Mirren ventured forward, and the ball eventually ran into the path of Richard Tait outside the box who beautifully picked out the top corner.

County came close to an equaliser just after the hour mark when Owura Edwards connected with a diving header after Callum Johnson sent a tantalising cross towards the back post, only for the ball to hit the outside of the post.

Kazeem Olaigbe did look lively off the bench, and in the dying moment he forces a save out of Trevor Carson at the stopper's near post, but that was as close as they would come to getting on the scoresheet as County head back up the A9 with nothing to show for their efforts..
